eM Client’s import and export function is a very useful and secure tool to import your eM Client
data and settings from your desktop app to your mobile device, making it the best email client
you can find.
You can easily export and import account settings, e-mail templates, signatures, QuickTexts,
certificates, tags, and more.

function, you can find more

Export your account settings in the eM Client desktop app
If you want to quickly transfer your account settings and import them to your eM Client mobile
app, here is a short guide.
First, navigate to your main menu and click on "Settings".
Once in the Settings section, you can notice a "QR Export" button in the upper
part of the window.
By clicking on the button, a new window will open, where you can choose which settings you want
to export from your eM Client desktop app.
You can include only settings, or add your accounts with passwords, templates, signatures, and
so on. Once you choose which settings you want to export, click on the "Export"
button.
Your unique export QR code will open up with additional instructions:
Now is the time to head over to your eM Client mobile app.
In case you have just freshly installed your application, you will have the option to migrate
your data on the initial login screen - tap the "Migrate from desktop" button.
You will be able to scan the QR code from your desktop or another mobile device.
A QR code reader will open once you tap the "Scan QR code" button - use it to
scan your unique QR code that is shown on your eM Client desktop app (or another mobile device
app).
Now, all your chosen settings will be imported to your mobile device app.
If you already logged into your eM Client mobile application, use the option of importing your
data from the Settings menu.
Open the Settings menu, and tap the "Import/Export" option.
Then, tap on the "Import via QR code". Use the QR code scanner that opens to
scan the QR code.
Please be aware that the unique QR code can only be scanned and your data
imported through the eM Client mobile application. Scanning the code using
other applications or your mobile device camera is not possible.
As you might have noticed, the eM Client mobile app also has an "Export via QR
code" function.
It offers the same options as the desktop app export function, so you can export your settings
and import them to another mobile device.
Exporting individual email accounts and settings
Each setting in the export function on both the desktop and the mobile app as well as each of
your individual email accounts can be exported in a standalone QR code.
For exporting only one of your accounts with its settings, go to "Accounts" and
click on the relevant account. Then export your data to a QR code:
The QR code of the individual settings can always be created in the relevant section of your
desktop application:
- Email signatures: Settings > Mail > Templates and Signatures > Signatures
- Email templates: Settings > Mail > Templates and Signatures > Mail
Templates
- check
this guide for a full walkthrough on eM Client mail templates!
- Certificates and keys: Settings > Signing and Encryption > Certificates and
keys > Manage certificates/Keypairs
- QuickTexts: Settings > Mail > QuickText
Bear in mind that the data limit for QR code export is 5 MB - the export of
larger files is not possible. For exporting over 5MB of data (email templates containing large
images, etc.), either divide your export based on sections (Signatures, Templates, and so on) or use the XML file export feature to transfer all of your data at once without any limitations.
The export/import via XML file is also useful as a workaround for mobile devices that do not
have a camera (Chromebook and other tablets).
Exporting data and settings to an XML file on the eM Client desktop app
In the general Settings menu, click on the "Export" in the top
part of the window. Choose the settings you would like to export and the preferred file
destination.
Transfer the exported XML file to your mobile device, where it can be opened via your eM Client
mobile application.
