Sync your contacts

The only downside to getting a new device is figuring out how to access your information - like your old contacts. Not having access to the contact information for everyone you communicate with on a daily basis is stress inducing; even if it’s only temporary. Fortunately, it’s easy to sync your contacts! Effortlessly transfer your contacts from one device to another by following just a few simple steps.

How to transfer contacts from your phone

The process of transferring your contacts from your phone to another device or program will depend on the kind of phone you have. For example, if you need to know how to transfer contacts to android from iPhone; the process will be slightly different from transferring contacts on your Android phone to your new iPhone. To sync contacts Apple and Windows work slightly differently. It’s still possible (and easy) to sync even if you’re changing devices.

How to transfer contacts from Android to iPhone:

  • Open the Contacts app on your Android.
  • Menu > Import > SIM card
  • After your contacts have been imported, add the SIM card to your iPhone.
  • Go to Settings > Contacts > Import SIM contacts.

How to transfer contacts from iPhone to Android:

  • It’s recommended to transfer your contacts to your Google account first.
  • Go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts > Gmail and turn your Contacts on. This will sync your contacts.
  • The Android phone will sync to your Google account automatically, which will sync the contacts as a result.

If you’re intimidated, don’t worry - there’s no need to give up and resort to keeping an old fashioned address book on paper. The process for storing your contacts list is even easier if you use a cloud service like iCloud contacts for your iPhone.

Or, if your contacts were previously uploaded to your Google account, you’ll be able to automatically sync your contacts to your Android phone. The Google servers use remote servers to store sent data. This is extremely helpful, especially if you’re trying to add data to a new device from an old device that was irreparably damaged.

Did you accidentally sync an unnecessary contact? Learning how to delete contacts on iPhones and other devices is simple.

  • Android devices require the following steps: Tap contact > More > Delete.

How to transfer email contacts

When you switch to a new email provider, you’ll need to know how to transfer your contacts from your previous email account. For example, if you are switching from Yahoo to Gmail - you need to know how to transfer your contacts to Gmail. Once again, this process is simplified if you already uploaded your contacts to the mail server or a cloud storage service. The cloud will work for both your phone and your email.

If you’re not using a synchronized account for contacts or a cloud service, you’ll need to download the contacts from your old email account as a file. Save the file to your computer. Now it’s time to get started!

To transfer contacts to Gmail:

  • Save your contacts in your computer as a file.
  • Go to Gmail.
  • Click Select File.
  • Click Import.

To transfer contacts to Outlook:

  • In the toolbar, go to Manage > Import Contacts
  • Select your contact file.
  • Import.

The process will be similar for all popular providers. The information included in the file will be added to your new email account, and then you’ll be ready to start sending emails!
