How to change or remove an email account from gmail

There comes a time where you might need to change or remove either your Gmail address or an email connected to your Gmail account. This article will try to help you with these quesitons.

  1. Click your account icon on the up right corner
  2. Click "Sign out of all accounts" (this option will be available with 2 or more accounts)
  3. Click "Remove an account" and choose which one you want to remove
  4. Click Yes and sign in back to your preferred account

How to remove an email account from gmail

If you added your other email accounts directly into your Gmail (so you can send/receive emails under that email address) you can remove it in the same place you added it, in the Gmail settings.

  1. Go to
  2. Click the Settings Gear icon in the top right
  3. Click "See all settings"
  4. Open "Accounts and Import"
  5. Remove your connected addresses from "Send mail as:" and "Check mail from other accounts:" section by clicking "Delete" next to their name

Can you change your email address on gmail

You cannot change your existing email address once you create your email account. But you can create a new one and connect them both.
As mentioned in previous section, you can set up another email account in Gmail's setting to received and send messages from that account - so once you are done with your old email, you can add it to "Check mail from other accounts:" section so you can still receive your email until everyone you know updates their contacts! If you want to keep replying from the old email too you can add it to "Send email as:" section.
