eM Client: the email app with MDM

eM Client Mobile supports managed app configurations on both Android and iOS.

Managed configurations (MDM, or app restrictions) let IT administrators remotely configure eM Client mobile app using their Mobile Device Management (MDM) or Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution.

This allows the company to have complete control over important app settings of all its employees and enforce company policies, usually to ensure data protection.

Instead of configuring each device manually, admins can deploy a predefined set of policies directly to the app.

What does using eM Client with MDM mean in practice?

The admin will use one of these tools depending on the platform:

Platform Mechanism
Android Android Enterprise managed configurations (also known as app restrictions)

The app defines the available settings, which are then displayed in your MDM or EMM console.
iOS Apple Managed App Configuration

Your MDM solution sends a configuration dictionary to the app using the standard com.apple.configuration.managed key.

Each managed configuration setting is identified by a unique key.

In the MDM/EEM console, the administrator enters a value for each key they want to configure. The MDM then sends those key-value pairs to the app, which reads them and applies the corresponding settings automatically.

Here are some examples of the available settings:

Automatically set up one or more accounts for users:

  • users do not have to deal with the technical details of specific account setup

  • users can be blocked from adding other accounts beyond what is allowed by the admin

  • admin can limit which servers and identities users can connect to when manually added accounts are allowed

Apply security and data protection policies to keep company information safe:

  • mandatory password or PIN – including the minimal length or complexity of the passwords or specify how long the app can remain in the background before it must be unlocked again

  • screen capture prevention – no screenshots or screen recordings can be taken within the app

  • clipboard clearing – the system clipboard is cleared when user leaves the app, preventing them from copying data from the eM Client app into other apps

  • disable sharing attachments – sharing via other apps or saving the files to the device storage

  • disable moving/copying data between accounts

  • disable printing

Lock selected account settings so users can't change them, such as:

  • disabling/enabling push notifications

  • changing advanced account settings, such as server and port settings, folder paths or the option to edit per-account advanced parameters

Choose whether users will be allowed to use artificial intelligence (AI) features

After the administrator deploys the app through the MDM/EEM solution, the app automatically detects and applies any managed configuration when it starts.

The configured accounts are created or updated automatically.

If additional user input is needed – such as entering a password or completing an OAuth sign-in – the app guides the user through the remaining steps with a simplified setup wizard.
